Water Dispenser Not Working
A water dispenser that produces nothing when you press the lever is usually a supply problem rather than a dispenser problem -- the water is not reaching the dispenser at all, rather than the dispenser mechanism itself being broken. Before checking parts, confirm the water supply line behind the refrigerator is turned fully on and that you have not recently replaced the filter without flushing air out of the line, which can cause a temporary sputtering or no-flow issue that clears itself after a minute of running water.
If the basics check out and the dispenser is still dry, work through these parts in order, starting with the part shared with the ice maker since it is the most common single point of failure for both features on the same door.
Safety first. A refrigerator runs on standard household current but also contains a pressurized, sealed refrigerant system.
- Unplug the refrigerator before removing any panel, touching a fan, switch, or wiring, or inspecting an internal component.

- Terminal Socket (part WR2X8265) — the electrical connection feeding the dispenser components can corrode over time, causing an intermittent or total loss of signal to the water valve.
- Valve Kit 978026 (part 978026) — hard-water mineral buildup inside valve components can restrict or fully block flow over time, particularly on refrigerators that have never had the filter changed.
Diagnostic Order
- Confirm the water supply valve behind the refrigerator is fully open, and that the water line was not accidentally kinked when the refrigerator was last moved.
- Press the dispenser paddle firmly and listen for a faint click or hum from the water inlet valve -- no sound at all points to the switch or its wiring; a sound with no water flow points to the valve itself or a blockage.
- Check whether the ice maker also fails to produce ice -- since both often share the same water inlet valve, a shared failure narrows the cause to that one part.
