About this part

W11210459 is a Whirlpool replacement part (water inlet valve) for washers. Our fitment data lists 82 models that use it.

Key facts

  • Two-coil fill valve: the red solenoid opens the hot inlet, the blue solenoid opens the cold inlet, and both feed one outlet housing.
  • Supplied as a complete assembly with the wiring harness attached, including the center lead for the water-temperature sensor (thermistor).
  • Current Whirlpool number for this valve. It supersedes W10701459, W10838319, W10869799, W11025984 and W11038711, so an old valve printed with one of those numbers is the same part.
  • Used on top-load washers sold as Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, Roper, Inglis, Crosley and Kenmore.
  • A realistic DIY job: 15 of 18 detailed repair reports rate it easy or very easy, and none took longer than an hour.
  • The two inlet filter screens are built into the valve and are not sold separately.

The Washer Water Inlet Valve (part number W11210459) is an essential component that regulates water intake during wash cycles. This part directly replaces part numbers W11025984 and W11038711, ensuring compatibility with a variety of Whirlpool washer models. When installing the water inlet valve, it is crucial to first unplug the washer and shut off the water supply to prevent any water leakage or electrical hazards. Wearing work gloves is recommended to protect your hands during the installation process. For optimal performance, inspect the valve for any obstructions or damage that may affect water flow into the washer. This component can resolve issues related to improper filling, such as overfilling or incomplete filling of the washing drum.

How to replace it

  1. Unplug the washer and close both water supply valves.
  2. Unscrew the hot and cold fill hoses at the back of the washer. Keep a towel or a small bucket ready for the water left in the hoses.
  3. Remove the screws on the back of the control console (1/4 in. hex head on most of these washers).
  4. Slide a putty knife under the front corners of the console to release the spring clips, then fold the console forward onto the lid.
  5. Unplug the connector on each solenoid coil and the center thermistor connector. A phone photo first makes reassembly easier.
  6. Remove the two screws that hold the valve housing and work the assembly out of its slot.
  7. Seat the new valve, refit the two screws and reconnect all three connectors.
  8. Hook the console's rear tabs back in, snap the front down and refit the screws. Reconnect the hoses, open the water, plug the washer in and run a short fill to check for leaks.

Frequently asked questions

My old valve is marked W10869799. Is W11210459 the right replacement?

Yes. W11210459 is the current number for the same valve; it replaces W10869799 along with W10701459, W10838319, W11025984 and W11038711. The number printed on an older valve is often one of those earlier revisions.

How do I test this water inlet valve with a multimeter?

Unplug the washer, pull the connector off one solenoid coil and measure across its two terminals. A healthy coil reads roughly 500 to 1,500 ohms. An open circuit (no reading) means that coil has failed and the valve needs replacing. Repeat for the second coil.

Can I buy just the small filter screens inside the inlets?

No. The screens are part of the valve and are not sold on their own. You can clean them, for example by soaking limed-up screens in vinegar, but a damaged screen means replacing the whole valve.

Why does water keep running into my washer when it is off?

If water still flows with the washer unplugged, the valve is mechanically stuck open and has to be replaced. If the flow stops when you unplug it, check the water-level pressure switch and the control as well.

Which models does W11210459 fit?

Our fitment data lists 82 models that use W11210459, including RTW4516FW0, 11020362811, 11020362810. Enter your model number in the fit checker on this page to confirm.

What symptoms point to a failed water inlet valve?

The source catalog links this part to these symptoms: no water, slow fill, won't fill.

Is W11210459 hard to install?

Most people who replaced it themselves found it very easy: 12 of 18 detailed repair reports give that rating. This page includes a replacement video. Unplug the appliance before you start.
