Washer Cycle Taking Too Long
Modern washers rarely run a fixed cycle length -- most adjust the time in progress based on load size, how quickly water fills and drains, and how balanced the load is, which is exactly why a cycle can run 20-40 minutes longer than the time originally shown on the display without anything being broken.
Before assuming a part has failed, separate "the estimated time changed partway through, which is normal" from "the washer is genuinely taking much longer than it used to for the same size load," since only the second pattern reliably points to a developing problem.

- Cycle or option selected is inherently longer — Sanitize, bulky item, and extra-rinse options are deliberately longer than a normal cycle, and an accidentally selected option can add 30+ minutes without anything being wrong. When a Long Cycle Signals a Real Problem
Treat a slow cycle as a real problem worth investigating once it becomes a consistent pattern across normal, evenly loaded washes -- a single long cycle on one oversized or unbalanced load is normal behavior, not a fault.
Tools You Will Need
Most of the checks on this page use the same basic kit: a Phillips and flat-head screwdriver set for opening panels, a multimeter set to continuity/ohms for testing switches and motor windings, a flashlight for looking inside the cabinet, needle-nose pliers for hose clamps and small connectors, and a shallow pan with a towel for any step that involves disconnecting a hose or opening the pump filter access door. The full model number matters more than the brand and appliance type alone: manufacturers commonly reuse one body design across many model numbers over several years, changing the exact door latch, control board, or pump partway through that run.
